KASHIF UMAR THANVI is the General Manager and Head of Rural Banking at HBL, Pakistan. He started his career with Engro, working in the Marketing Division. Kashif was awarded Engro’s coveted Marketing Excellence Award in 1998 for his lead role in supply chain optimization. He moved on to the banking industry in 2002. Prior to joining HBL in 2007, he worked with Khushali Bank Limited and United Bank Limited. At HBL, Kashif has pioneered the transformation of HBL’s Rural Banking into a business model that is innovative, self-sustainable, and scalable. HBL has a leadership role in Agricultural Finance in Pakistan and the top provider of loans to farmers amongst the private commercial banks. The Bank has been awarded the “Best Bank for Agriculture for the years 2016, 2017 and 2018 at the Pakistan Banking Awards. Kashif’s active involvement with the State Bank of Pakistan has led to multiple initiatives such as prudential regulations for agricultural credit, crop loan insurance scheme, livestock loan insurance, agricultural credit target estimation, and guidelines for various agriculture sub-sectors. He is the Co-Chairman of PBA’s subcommittee on Agricultural Finance and also sits on the Board of “Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation”. Kashif also served on the Board of “The First Microfinance Bank, Pakistan” during 2015 and 2016. He is an MBA from IBA, Karachi and Bachelors in Science from Government College, Lahore.
