Agricultural Commodity Standards and Grades

Agricultural Commodity Standards and Grades

Commodity grades and quality standards are at the very foundation of the EWR eco-system. These standards ensure that stored commodity, at the accredited warehouse, remains compliant with a specific commodity grade and once traded, off-exchange or on-exchange (PMEX), the buyer gets the same quality as mentioned on the EWR. To begin with, NCMCL has selected maize, paddy and rice for which grades have been developed via consultative process involving key stakeholders. Grade development for agricultural commodities is a perpetual process and NCMCL intends to carry it out on a regular basis as and when new commodities are inducted into the eco-system.

Complete information regarding the produce stored in the warehouse shall be monitored and maintained in the EWR system that would provide complete access to the account holder at any point in time. This EWR system will be accessible to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PMEX) and partner banks simultaneously to offer on-exchange EWR sale and purchase and financing against EWRs respectively.

With all stakeholders and regulatory authorities working hand-in-hand under the ambit of digitized EWRs, access to information becomes more fluid with lower downtime, establishing a transparent, well-knit grid of disseminating crucial information at the touch of a button!
